Why crypto is seeking legitimacy at the WEF in Davos

– The World Economic Forum (WEF) is a yearly event that takes place in Davos, Switzerland.
– This year’s event was the first in-person WEF since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.
– Blockchain and cryptocurrency companies had a large presence at the event, with many crypto companies setting up shop along the Davos boulevard.
– The WEF now features a dedicated website for blockchain technology, and bankers openly discussed digital currencies during a panel on the WEF main stage.
– The trendline for crypto is now positive, according to Ripple Labs CEO Brad Garlinghouse.
– Swissborg’s Alex Fazel summed up the bubbling crypto sentiment as newbies and nocoiners (those yet to invest in crypto) took their first steps into the space.
– Ultimately, when the CEO of MasterCard features on a blockchain panel perched next to Bank for International Settlements researchers and crypto enthusiasts to openly debate the demise of SWIFT, as well as the dawn of central bank digital currencies (CBDCs), its clear that digital currencies have made the mainstream.
– However, some WEF attendees are concerned that the increasing regulation of the crypto space may lead to darker applications of blockchain technology.
