Crypto crime hits Eastern Europe hard
– Eastern Europe has the highest rate of cryptocurrency activity associated with “risky or illicit” activity, according to a report by blockchain analytics firm Chainalysis.
– The high rate of risky activity is driven by the prevalence of “high-risk exchanges” in the region, which have little to no know-your-customer (KYC) information standards.
– Russia and Ukraine have seen increases in crypto-related transactions since the war began in March.
– However, Ukraine has seen a steady increase in crypto-to-crypto transactions since March.
